Who are we?


The Customs & Trade Law Academy is the center created by HEC Liège and the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Criminology of the University of Liège to develop and promote research and training in customs and excise.

Through its international network and activities, the center fosters academic collaborations with experts from the public and private sectors and international organizations, including the European Commission, the World Customs Organization, the Federal Public Service Economy, the Federal Public Service Finance (General Administration of Customs and Excise), the International Chamber of Commerce in Belgium (ICC), Greenlane (Trade Lawyers) and Belgian Chambers.

The Customs & Trade Law Academy is supported by AWEx, Liege Airport and collaborates with the Antwerp Tax Academy.

Our missions


Through our network, training and research:

  • Develop skills and resources of excellence in customs and excise to support the international development of companies
  • Assist SMEs in their internationalization process
  • Participate in the reduction of risks related to international trade
  • Contribute to the development of Wallonia

Our projects


  • Applied research on the reduction of declarative risk related to tariff classification, origin and value of goods. This project is part of the consortium eorigin financed by the Walloon Region in the framework of the competitiveness clusters.
  • Development of training courses for companies with HEC Liège Executive Education in connection with the European referential of competences for customs. A basic training and 5 specialized modules in customs and excise are available: https://www.hecexecutiveschool.be/douanes-accises
  • Master of Specialization in Tax Law, Customs Compliance orientation (60 credits) available at the beginning of the academic year 2021.
  • Participation in Regional Customs Forums (General and Liege Airport) in close collaboration with the General Administration of Customs and Excise
  • Development of a customs working group within the Liege Cargo Community, a Liege Airport project (to come)
