Presentation and objectives of the program

HEC Liège - School of Management of the University of Liège and the Protestant University in the Congo have joined forces to create a high-level training program in business management with a staggered schedule. HEC Liège will deliver a 60-credit Master in Management degree and the UPC will deliver a certificate in management and business law.

This program aims to train executives or future executives who will apply strategic management and business law skills by :

  • integrating a rigorous analysis of the context, the competition and a strategic watch of the markets ;
  • imagining growth opportunities and creative solutions, distinctive and sustainable competitive advantages
    Influencing, leading, collaborating, through leadership, lobbying and communication skills;
  • making decisions in changing business environments.

This program responds to a demand from Congolese companies who note the absence of high-level professional training in the DRC for their executives.

Calendar

The program with the introductory seminars is as follows

  • A set of introductory seminars that must be passed with a minimum grade;
  • Participation in the seminars leads to a certificate;
  • The Master's program, composed of a compulsory core curriculum (36 credits) and two thematic modules to choose from (12 credits per module).

The courses will be organized as much as possible in staggered hours and sometimes on weekends.

Target audience and access conditions

This training is particularly aimed at Congolese executives and future executives of companies as well as entrepreneurs. Candidates must hold a second cycle degree in management, economics or law, or any other degree deemed equivalent by an Admission Commission of the University of Liege. Holders of other degrees are eligible subject to acceptance of their file by the Admission Commission and possibly the successful completion of additional study programmes.

Having a professional activity or strong professional experience is an advantage. Applicants must submit a dossier outlining their motivations, their curriculum vitae with emphasis on their higher education and university studies and their professional experience.

Exceptionally, a student who has successfully completed the first degree in management sciences or equivalent with at least one distinction may apply for admission. His or her file will be submitted to the Admissions Committee.

Pedagogy

The program is distinguished by its organization and specific pedagogy, interactive, practical and based on numerous case studies.

Courses taught by expert and teacher pairs

The courses will be given in pairs, that is to say that the lessons are given by both teachers who are specialists or experts in a subject, mostly attached to the University of Liege, and by Congolese teachers who can bring contextual elements.

End-of-studies work

All students enrolled in the Master's program will complete a thesis, which may take the form of a research paper or a project paper.

The research paper is an original research project related to the teaching module chosen by the student or to the teaching received in the framework of the Master's program; it deals with the analysis of a global management problem translated into a research question.

This work, based on a rigorous scientific approach, must allow the student to demonstrate that he/she has mastered the theoretical knowledge acquired during the course of the program and that he/she is capable of applying it with discernment to analyze and solve a practical problem related to the reality of the company.

The objective of the project-memoir is to confront theoretical knowledge with its practical application. In the framework of the project-thesis, the student analyzes a major management problem posed by the company/organization that employs him/her. He/she proposes argued solutions and, if necessary, implements them in the company/organization. The management problem addressed must be related to the teaching module chosen by the student. It can be a private or public company, in the market or non-market sector.

The evaluation is based on the written and/or oral control of knowledge of each subject of the courses and the realization of an end-of-study work related to the specialization chosen by the candidate.
