International Ambassador Contest

Contest Overview :

The International Ambassador Contest is an initiative that aims to acknowledge and honor students who have demonstrated exceptional international engagement during their academic journey. Open to all second-year master's students, the contest seeks individuals who have not only ventured beyond borders but have actively contributed to fostering cultural understanding and embracing diverse perspectives.

Your involvement in international programs makes you eligible to be our next International Ambassador. If you've participated in programs such as Erasmus mobility, ESN, Double Degree, Internship abroad, ULiege buddy program, Summer school, etc...and other cross-cultural experiences, this is your chance to shine.

"My name is Maxime Polis, Master 2 student in Economics at HEC Liège. I am honored to be the first HEC's International Ambassador. During my Bachelor, I worked hard to qualify for an Erasmus. My stay at BI Norwegian Business School has had a profound impact on my lifestyle and vision of work. During my Master studies, I chose for a Double Degree at Hohenheim Universität.

My first semester being online, I volunteered as a Buddy for an incoming student from Turkey with whom I exchanged culturally. I have also attended a Summer School in Brussels whereby I got to improve my hard skills but also build up professional relationships with European peers. This year, I have signed up as a buddy for two students, one from Germany and one from Portugal. We have had the pleasure to meet at several occasions. Moreover, I have also proudly represented our university within an Easter School at the University of Surrey (UK)."

“Thank you to the International Relations team for this great opportunity but also for all the other opportunities we have at HEC to study abroad. In fact, during my studies, I had the chance to go on Erasmus in Innsbruck, in Austria in 2021, but also to study in Pavia, in Italy, as part of the double-degree in marketing organized by the school. During the next semester, I will also work in New-York for my internship taking place with the Explort program of the AWEX.  As well as being a considerable added value on your resume, it is also one of the best ways to step out of your comfort zone, to build your independence and to travel while studying!”

From a transformative academic journey to global adventures, Emma embodies the spirit of HEC. Her commitment to community, international relations, and sustainable development truly sets her apart.

International journey of Emma Wouters :

  • 2021 - 2022: Ersamus Exchange (Belgica) – KU Leuven
  • 2021 : An active Member of ESN + Buddy Program
  • 2022 - 2023 : Erasmus Exchange : University of Navarra – Pamplona, Spain
  • 2023 : INTERNSHIP GREEN OFFICE ULIEGE + SLAB HEC

“My story at HEC begins on September 13, 2019. 4 years later, here I am in Master 2, in management of social and sustainable enterprises. Between the courses, the christening, the meetings, the covid, the trips, the exams and the ICOs, it's fair to say I've rarely had time to get bored.

In 2018, I spent a year in the United States as part of a second rhetoric course. Since then, my taste for adventure has never left me. It's one of the reasons why I chose HEC. Indeed, in addition to the professional opportunities, the broad field of application and the potential future impact on society that these studies offer, the mobility opportunities on offer also played a part in my choice. So, in 2021, two years after starting at HEC, I'm off to KU Leuven as part of my Erasmus Belgica. My desire to discover other cultures and open up to new approaches and perspectives of thought not having been satisfied, I returned to the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona in 2022. These experiences taught me more about myself, broadened my way of thinking, empowered me and expanded my worldview.

Alongside these Erasmus programs, in June 2021 I also joined ESN HEC, a non-profit organization dedicated to welcoming Erasmus and international students staying in Liège. This has turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made in my studies. It has enabled me to meet many people from Liège and beyond, allowing me to continue traveling while staying in Belgium. I'm proud to be able to contribute to my faculty thanks to this commitment. Having had the experience of living abroad myself, it was important for me to offer support to people going through similar situations, by becoming a reference person or point of contact. This is also why I take part every year in the "Buddy Program" organized by HEC's international relations department.

Here we are in 2023, and the HEC chapter is beginning to close. However, I'm still lucky enough to be able to get involved with my faculty and university through my internship. I'm working on a dissertation project focusing on the development of a network of ambassadors for sustainable development within HEC's pilot faculty. This project is jointly supervised by the Université de Liège's Green Office (ULiège's sustainable development platform) and HEC's S'LAB (a service platform aimed at accelerating HEC's transition).

Looking back on my years of discovery, travel and investment in the university community, I'm grateful for the lessons learned, the friendships made and the opportunities seized.  These experiences, shaped by adventure, community service and love for travel, will stay with me forever, inspiring me for future challenges."
